Getting Back To Normal After The Holidays
Toss out the trash, and save the rest.
As you separate recyclables, don't forget to save the receipts and proof of purchase seals from toy, clothing , and electronic product packaging. For a larger purchase, consider flattening the box for moving the item in the future or selling/returning it.
Downsizing
Take a good look at your holiday decor. Discard broken items, and consider donating the excess to your favorite charity, a retirement community or school used for craft projects, or give to your children who do not live at home any longer. They might want to build up their collection and some might be sentimental value.
Pack It Right
Invest in some clear plastic tubs or containers for the larger pieces like wreaths for Christmas and Hanukah decorations. The clear tubs are easy to view later what's in them and start looking at stores today, because they are usually on sale this time of the year.
Holiday Audit
Make room for the New Year by collecting the holiday trappings from each room in your house.
In the kitchen: pack away all holiday china, decorative pieces and towels/napkins, and holiday cookie cutters. And if you doubt you'll use those cans of yams or pie filling again, donate it to the local food pantry.
In the bathroom: collect your holiday towels, linens and potpourri.
In the children's rooms: overloaded closets and toy bins - encourage to go through both and donate items to homeless shelters, church groups or your favorite charity.
In the living room: gather those favorite holiday DVD's and books and store together in a labeled bin. They'll be easy to find and enjoy for next year.
Finally, don't forget to the download the holiday photos from your phone or camera and share them with loved ones. Organize them in a media folder or print off for future gifts.
